The Stronger Your Identity, the Less You Need Trends

The Stronger Your Identity, the Less You Need Trends

Check this out!. ... There’s a reason some homes end up looking exactly the same.  And it has nothing to do with budget.  It’s because they were built around trends instead of identity.

This week I finished an OTOMI children's chair upholstered with authentic Otomi embroidery.

While filming the process, I found myself thinking about something:

The stronger your cultural identity, the less you need trends.   You stop looking for permission.   You stop chasing what everyone else is buying.   You begin choosing objects that actually mean something to you.

The chair started as a simple sketch.   Wood, fabric, embroidery, and dozens of small decisions.   But behind the making of it was a bigger question:

Are we decorating our homes to fit in, or to remember who we are?

I documented the entire process, from sketch to finished piece, and shared it in my latest video.

If you're interested in Mexican craftsmanship, handmade textiles, and creating a home with a stronger sense of identity, I think you'll enjoy it.

PS. A home with identity never goes out of style.  Remember, we lie but our house´ll never lie.
