Boho Wall Hanging Art: THE STORY TO BRING MEXICO HOME
Tzintzuntzan — Life by the Lake
Hand-embroidered in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán, this textile tells the story of life around Lake Pátzcuaro, a region deeply connected to the Purépecha culture and to generations of lakeside traditions.
The embroidery portrays the fishing life and everyday customs of the region: fishermen on the water, traditional boats, fish, birds, and the landscapes and activities that surround life by the lake. Rather than depicting Mexico as a generic idea, the piece captures a specific place and the relationship between its people and the water.
Every element is built by hand in colorful thread. The turquoise water occupies the center of the composition, filled with fishermen, boats and aquatic life, while the opposite side brings the viewer back to the life on shore—homes, gardens, people and everyday activity.
A richly detailed textile that functions as both folk narrative and contemporary wall art, preserving a glimpse of the cultural landscape of Tzintzuntzan through embroidery.

Each motif is first drawn directly onto cotton fabric and then embroidered stitch by stitch by hand using the traditional “pata de gallo” technique.
Created in collaboration with artisans from Hidalgo and curated by Casa Lanna Ha as a contemporary textile for intentional interiors.
Each textile is later altered with a fabric backing for wall hanging, transforming the piece from a traditional object into a contemporary presence within the home.
