Created by artisans from Oaxaca using traditional embroidery methods that continue to live through generations of ceremonial dress from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This piece is very rare and featured at the famous party La Guelaguetza in Oaxaca.

THE PIECE
A huipil is not decoration. It is a garment woven and embroidered by hand by Mazatec women in the highlands of Oaxaca, worn for ceremony, marriage, and daily identity. Each color, each stitch, carries meaning passed down without a written record.
This particular huipil was created in San Bartolomé Ayautla, one of the last communities where the traditional Mazatec technique is still practiced. Now it enters your home as wall art, but it never stops being what it was made to be: a piece of living memory.

CRAFTSMANSHIP
100% cotton, hand woven on backstrap loom. Embroidered stitch by stitch with cotton thread by a single artisan. The technique used here is unique to the Mazateca Alta region of Oaxaca and cannot be reproduced by machine.

Custom cut clear velvet rod 31", sized to this exact piece. The rod passes through the neck opening of the huipil, giving a floating minimal presentation that respects the garment. Includes:

USE
Designed for a single wall where it will be the only piece. Works in entryways, above headboards, in a reading corner, in a hallway. Performs great at a busy gallery wall. The huipil needs space to breathe.
PACKAGING

CARE
Do not wash. Do not iron directly. Do not expose to direct sunlight for extended periods. This is a textile that should live indoors, on a wall, away from moisture. If it needs cleaning, contact us for guidance.
