Inspired by the iconic wardrobe of Frida Kahlo, this velvet Tehuana blouse is created by artisans from Oaxaca using traditional embroidery methods that continue to live through generations of ceremonial dress from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
More than reproduction, this piece carries the rhythm and visual language of a textile tradition still worn during moments of celebration and cultural gathering.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
The embroidery is created using a traditional hand-guided machine technique — an older process where artisans manually move the textile to build each motif line by line, color by color.
No digital embroidery.
No automated pattern repetition.
Only guided movement, thread, and time.
The embroidery appears on both the front and back of the blouse, honoring the structure and visual balance found in traditional Tehuana garments.

Custom cut clear velvet rod 31", sized to this exact piece. The rod passes through the neck opening of the huipil, giving a floating minimal presentation that respects the garment. Includes:

CARE RECOMMENDATIONS:
ALL the garments and embroideries that you can see at the store are machine washable at home. The only thing you should care about is the soap (mainly reason why we don´t recommend sending them to the dry cleaner: the chemicals they use). The chemicals is what ruins the threads. So you have to look for a liquid soap for your machine washer that doesn’t have much chemics. We found out that the brand “Arm & Hammer” has few chemics if you can find it there. I use one in Mexico called Zote that has 2 ingredients so that’s very helpful. Now if an accident happens we treat the stain as locally as possible and then we recommend to wash it normally with machine washer.
With machine washer you just have to use the quick or gentle cycle and you’ll be more than fine. One important thing is that NEVER NEVER NEVER use dryer. Heat damages threads and that’s the mainly reason for not using the dryer.
Machine washer nets also help. Machine washers with a new technology treats garment very good, so if yours is not that one we recommend the nets. For black, blue or red color threads we also recommend dye trapping sheets which you can throw them inside the washing machine and just forget about any problem with colors. You even can find there´s a lot of brands.
